On Thursday, August 21, 2025, Ehime University renewed its Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for Academic Exchange with Lurio University in Mozambique, the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Mozambique, and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
The signing ceremony took place during the side events for the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9). The Japanese government hosted the conference in Yokohama from Wednesday, August 20, to Friday, August 22.
President Nishina Hiroshige, Special Aide to the President Kobayashi Osamu, and Associate Professor Kurita Hideyuki attended the signing ceremony at JICA Yokohama. President Nishina signed an MOU with Lurio University Rector Leda Florinda Hugo and JICA Africa Department Director Kobayashi Hiroyuki.
This MoU between the four institutions, signed in 2014, aims to contribute to the development of northern Mozambique. It establishes a framework for the four institutions to collaborate in the fields of development, public-private partnerships, and academic exchange. This time, the MoU has been renewed with some modifications to its content.
In June of this year, the governors of three northern provinces of Mozambique and the Director-General of the Northern Integrated Development Authority visited Ehime University.
It is hoped that educational and academic exchanges between the two countries will continue to progress.
