Ehime University concluded a memorandum of understanding with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) on Thursday, August 21, 2025, regarding the joint dispatch of overseas cooperation volunteers to Mozambique.
The signing ceremony took place during a pre-session of the side events for the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9). The Japanese government hosted the conference in Yokohama from Wednesday, August 20, to Friday, August 22.
President Nishina Hiroshige, Special Aide to the President Kobayashi Osamu, and Associate Professor Kurita Hideyuki attended the signing ceremony at JICA Yokohama. President Nishina signed the memorandum with Ms. Tamura Eriko, director of JICA Shikoku Center.
Ehime University plans to dispatch approximately three students or faculty members to Mozambique annually for five years, starting in fiscal year 2026, through this memorandum. These individuals will serve as overseas cooperation volunteers, engaging in activities that address challenges related to community development, vegetable cultivation, and agricultural product processing. These efforts are expected to contribute to Mozambique’s sustainable development.
Furthermore, in June 2023, Ehime University signed a memorandum with JICA regarding the dispatch of overseas volunteer corps members to Ghana. This is the second such memorandum.
